Stories

We measure our success in actual lives changed and souls saved. These stories are a testament to the difference our ministry can make when we come together to create lasting change in the name of Jesus Christ. We hope you'll consider taking action to help us make a difference in these children's lives, and communities around the world less fortunate than us.

Yeuri

Dominican Republic

Yeuri is nine years old, and he just completed the 2nd grade. When he first arrived at Kids to Christ school, he could hardly read and had rebellious behavior. However, throughout his time at Kids to Christ school, his behavior has improved, and his desire to learn has helped him to advance quickly. He loves being at school! At home, Yeuri lives with his mother and stepfather, along with five other siblings. His biological father has left the family and now lives in another part of the country. His stepfather works long days in the trash dump collecting garbage to recycle or resell in order to support the family. Yeuri helps around the home by washing dishes, and he dreams of being a professional baseball player when he grows up. He has recently accepted Jesus as his Savior, and we rejoice!

Manuel

Venezuela

Manuel Gomez, 7 years old, is from the community of Santa Ana in Venezuela. He lives with his mother, his grandmother, and his three brothers in a very difficult, impoverished situation. He recently had the special opportunity to participate in a Summer Bible Camp at “Jesús es el Señor” Christian Church, which is KTC’s partner church in Cumana, Venezuela. The theme of the camp was “The Great Adventure," and Manuel enjoyed learning about God's creation and the sin of man which caused God to send His Son Jesus as Redeemer. He also enjoyed the games, praise time, meals, and fun prizes at Bible Camp. Manuel is very precious and humble, and cried a lot during camp, saying “It's real. Jesus loves me.” Manuel also learned that Jesus is with him where he goes, even in his home. Each day, he shared the message from camp with his family. Manuel is currently not studying in the public school. However, thanks to the donors of Kids to Christ and a grant from Orphans Promise, he can attend the Kids to Christ “Escuela de Reformadores” and receive consistent opportunities to know Christ, receive healthy meals, and learn to read and write.

Bethsaelle

Dominican Republic

Bethsaelle is three years old, and she is in the preschool at Kids to Christ School. She lives with her mother in the trash dump community of Duquesa, just outside the capital city of Santo Domingo, and she has one brother who lives in Haiti. Her mother, Yennifer, is a single mother, as Bethsaelle’s father abandoned them and does not provide any support for the family. Her mother works long days washing bags from the trash mountain to support herself and her daughter with a meager income. At school, Bethsaelle receives healthy meals thanks to our donors. This is a huge help to her mother and very important for Bethsaelle’s health and development. She loves the food she receives at Kids to Christ School. No matter what is served, she is always willing to eat it! At Kids to Christ school, Bethsaelle is given opportunities to worship God and learn from His Word. Each week, she is challenged to memorize a Bible verse. Even though Bethsaelle does not have an earthly father in her life, she is being taught from a very young age how to pray to her Heavenly Father. We pray Bethsaelle grows to trust in Him with all her heart, and we believe God has good plans for this precious child. We are thankful for the opportunity to invest in her life, spiritually, physically, and mentally.

Esteben & Estiven

Dominican Republic

Esteban Junior and Estiven Junior Frias Ortiz are five-year old  twins that live near the Kids to Christ School (KTC). These precious boys do not have birth certificates. In the eyes of the world, they do not exist. But our Father sees them! The twins, the youngest of five siblings, lost an older sister in January of 2023. Yunelis, age 9, was trying to prepare food for her siblings without any parent in the home when her dress caught fire. Days later, she died. Yunelis was also a student at KTC school. We rejoice in knowing that she knew Jesus as her Lord. Yunelis received love, care, and affection from all the staff during her time at KTC and during her final days on earth. This event has marked the lives of all the children in the family. Esteban and Estiven currently live in the house of their mother, Estefan, who is addicted to drugs and whose main source of income is prostitution. Never attending school and unable to read or write, their father struggles to find job opportunities. He also has addiction problems. He struggles to survive, much less support his family, by selling fruit in the market.

Before being in school, KTC provided them with food, taking it to their home because these children spent long hours hungry and alone as their mother did not sleep at home. When these twins arrived, KTC staff that received them had great challenges. Despite being children, the boys already had very adult minds, using inappropriate adult expressions, and even wanting to have inappropriate interactions with the girls in their classrooms. They would steal classroom objects and money from teachers’ purses. They would often be caught sneaking out of class to go to other classrooms. At first, it was almost impossible to allow them to remain in the classroom setting, but now these precious children are adapting and learning! Esteban and Estiven now say they enjoy being at school and love the food they eat and the toys in the learning stations. Their vocabularies, which were very depraved, have improved. The behavior of stealing has decreased enormously. Another advance that the KTC staff have observed is in their ability to rest. Before, they did not sleep at all. Thank God it is now possible for them to have a nap. Where they used to tear up their worksheets and destroy school supplies, now they color, write, and draw peacefully. We thank God that He allows us to be light in the lives of these children and provide a safe sanctuary where they learn, grow, and thrive! We know God has good plans for their lives.

Sasquia

Dominican Republic

Sasquia lives with her mother, father, and younger sister in the community of Duquesa on the outskirts of the capital city in Santo Domingo. She is 8 years old and is from Haiti. Her father works as a “diver,” or one who collects garbage from the trash dump. He takes the items he finds to the recycling factory and is paid a small amount of money each day. Her mother finds food in the “bloquetes,” which are the garbage trucks that bring food waste from the capital city of Santo Domingo. From this garbage delivery, she selects what she understands to be eatable and prepares it for her family to eat. The mother also collects clothes and shoes from the garbage to resell them in hopes of earning money. In her free time, Sasquia likes to play with dolls and she helps her parents at home by washing and making the bed. Sasquia is in the second grade at Kids to Christ School. She enjoys studying and likes being with her teacher, Ines. At school, Sasquia is taught about Jesus and she really likes the stories He told that are recorded in the Bible. She tells us, “One of the things I like most about school is that I can study, write and learn to read," and she would like to learn to write in cursive. Sometimes her mother helps her with her homework. Other times, she finishes it at school in the afterschool program. Sasquia is a very sweet girl and full of peace. Despite the poverty in which she lives, she knows how to let Jesus shine in her life.

Sabina

Dominican Republic

While playing in the Duquesa community, Sabina had an accident and fell on rocks, badly injuring her head. The Kids to Christ missionary, O'neills Hobson, received a call from a member of the community informing her of the accident. When she and fellow missionaries arrived at the hospital where Sabina was awaiting treatment, young Sabina’s face changed completely. Even though she was in pain and covered with blood and gauze, she expressed such joy to see Mrs. Hobson. She repeated over and over again that she was so glad that they came to be with her. She had feared that she would be all alone. The sad truth is that many Dominicans hold prejudice against the Haitians living in their country. Unfortunately, this precious girl may not have received any medical treatment if the missionaries from Kids to Christ did not show-up and stand by her side as her advocate. Because of the hand of God working through the Kids to Christ, she received the stitches, an x-ray, and the required medicines to treat the pain and prevent infection. In addition, she spent two days at the Kids to Christ mission center to rest, be kept clean and recuperate from the accident. Since that time, she has known how important she is before God’s eyes, how special she is, and how loved she is. Her mother has eight children, including young twins, and recently became a Christian. The Kids to Christ team has been helping her in many ways. It has been a blessing for us to let her know there is something more powerful than the situation they face, and that is God.
